2017 International TOBY Awards Winners
Congratulations to the 2017 International TOBY Awards winners, both of which are clients of Goby!
June 27th marked the announcement of the recipients of the 31st annual International TOBY Awards: The Wrigley Building and 71 South Wacker.
Both winners are located in downtown Chicago, and are long-time clients of Goby. This honor was bestowed on these buildings for their excellence in commercial building management and operations. Goby is very proud of our clients’ achievements and ongoing successes.
The Wrigley Building
The Wrigley Building is one of America’s most famous office towers, an iconic symbol of Chicago. Located on Michigan Avenue along the north bank of the Chicago River, at the southernmost point of Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, the property consists of two buildings connected by two enclosed walkways; one on the third floor and one on the fourteenth floor.
The Wrigley Building participates in the Zeller Energy Challenge, a project created and managed by Goby that focuses on properties actively pursuing energy reduction. Goby’s platform and data analytics have assisted them throughout the challenge, and The Wrigley Building has successfully reduced energy consumption by 11% over 2 years.
71 South Wacker
71 South Wacker is a 1.5 million square foot, 49-story building featuring full-height glass, textured steel spandrels, and polished aluminum mullions. Set back on a 61,000 square foot site, its unique elliptical shape provides ample distance from neighboring buildings to enjoy natural light and limitless Chicago views through floor-to-ceiling perimeter windows on every floor.
71 South Wacker achieved a 6-point increase of its ENERGY STAR score in 2 years by monitoring and actively focusing on reduction measures. The property has received an ENERGY STAR certification every year for the past 8 years, since 2008. A majority of these certifications were streamlined by Goby.
The TOBY Awards are the commercial real estate industry’s highest recognition honoring excellence in commercial building management and operations in specific categories of building size and type. To win an International TOBY Award, a property first must win both local and regional competitions. Judging criteria include community impact, tenant/employee relations programs, energy management systems, accessibility, emergency evacuation procedures, building personnel training programs and overall quality indicators. A team of local industry professionals conduct comprehensive building inspections and grade written applications at the local level. Local winners then proceed to the regional and international competition where seasoned judges thoroughly review and score written applications.
